  1. Professional goals for the Portfolio

    1. I have no clear plan to pursue writing in terms of a career as of yet, but as writing has become a very important part of my life I also have no plans to ignore it post-grad. My portfolio exists to showcase the growth of my technical writing skills, the extent of my creative expression, and as a personal testiment to a specific kind of bravery and vulnerability that I would otherwise avoid at all costs. In these ways, my portfolio is a testament to many professional skills that I have developed through writing, though not necessarily for professional writing itself. That being said, I have not ruled out the possibility that I will continue to write somewhat casually, potentially publishing locally for practice and accountability-- I believe it is the kind of creative outlet that works well for my brain.

  2. Future for the portfolio

    1. In many ways, this portfolio exists as a space to continually add relavent writing to increase the potential reach of the platform. I imagine that I will do a lot more writing as I progress in my career, and I can see that expanding the portfolio will allow me to prove continual growth over time. Writing is a powerful tool, a powerful art form, and a powerful skill. Being able to display a collection of writing in the form of a portfolio will provide me with an exceptionally versitile place that I can add to resumes and attach to applications as a composite writing sample. I imagine updating the portfolio with pieces that I have used for publications (God willing), or pieces that I am proud of. Eventually I may choose to tailor the portfolio more, and create a streamlined portfolio for a particular goal (i.e. either academic or artistic writing depending on the place of submission).

  3. What pieces could be added or deleted

    1. I have a lot of pieces in the portfolio currently explaining my progress during my time at DU that are quite old, and honestly not very good writing. I included them because one of my portfolio goals has been to prove that this writing minor has been incredibly influential in improving my writing in both the technical aspects and confidence. If I were to use this portfolio in a professional aspect, that nuance is unnecessary and a little distracting.

    2. I would be happy to add more academic pieces to the portfolio, as I did not include very many (i.e. just one). I didn't do very much academic writing in the minor itself, so the major writing I included was my only expression of that side of my writing. Again, for professional use the portfolio would benefit from an expansion or even reorientation in order to be applicable in wider contexts.
